Eagles Leave Droppings All Over Cougars

Saturdays big grudge match was a do or die affair for the Eagles. Trailing the Cougars 4 games to 2 a win was vital to keep the series alive. The Eagles had a great player turn out for the match and were more than happy to lend the under manned Cougars a couple of their players. Coach Freeman shuffled the deck and came up with a brand new game plan. With big Randy “Charles” Dickins back in Saskatchewan working on his Cossack dancing, two FORMER backline players were moved up the ground to try and bag a few goals. Big Andy was a welcome sight for the not so tall Eagles along with his mates Jess and “Cracker” Fats.

From the first Johnny Bowker ball up, Big Andy and the Eagles took charge. Dale Wakefield dominated and managed to bag 4 goals in the first quarter. The Cougars young guns, Scotty Fleming and Prashad were also finding the big sticks, while Coops was generally annoying the Eagles with his usual good all round play. Big Chuck and The Wiz were turning away many Cougar challenges, while Chris Freeman and Stinky were getting mild cases of leather poisoning.

Cougar Doug Vargo the man with the dickie hammy was official photographer and goal umpire. He was looking pretty nervous after Pete Taylor slotted through his second. He realized that Taylor was only a mere 95 goals away from Doug’s all time league leading goal kicking tally. There have been reports that Vargo may be hanging up the boots and moving on the field with Johnny Bowker to work a two man umpiring team under the supervision of umpiring God, Kenny Freeman.

Overall it was a fantastic win for the Eagles! We look forward to tying up the series at the next local derby. Thanks to Santo and Mark Fraser for playing for the Cougars. The club would like to thank Paul “Stinky” Atkinson for his great play this season and wish him all the best in his future travels. (You may have to nominate someone to accept your B&F award on your behalf before you go) Shane “Plugger” Burgess is also moving on to Kitchener, Ontario and all the Eagles wish him and his Misses the best of luck with their big move.

Final Score

Eagles 13.10.88 to Cougars 7.8.50

Goals: Wakefield 5, Taylor 2, Joyes 2, Freeman 2, Brad 1, Jess 1

Best: Stinky, Wakefield, The Wiz, Freeman
