Hardworking Eagles put season back on track.

A determined Eagles team has led from start to finish beating its cross town rivals. On the warmest day of the year the Eagles came to play and from the start were serious about the way they attacked the ball. The Eagles Canadian player development proved to be working as Dusty opened the scoring playing on the wing!!! Young J.C and Connor showed they were ready for the big league as they shut down some of the veteran Cougars players and repeatedly drove the ball forward.

The key to the Eagles win was its stellar defense. The fullback line of Sullivan, Taylor and Ramano were exceptional. New recruit Frewen was a dominant figure and used his size and speed to stop the few attacking raids that came his way.

The forwards were also dominant. Lead by Cokes at CHF and Belly playing out of the goal square the attacking funnel style of the eagles play demanded a hard working forward option and we definitely got it. Determination and strength was key to their good form. They were well supported by James, Plugger, Darkness and Hilton who all had their best games of the year.

Unlike our previous encounter the cougars had no way to combat the hard running and great decision making skills that the eagles showed under pressure. One passage of play linking 7 hand passes and going through 3 sets of Canadian hands before ending in a shot on goal showed the potential the side has.

The cougars fought back but really had no answer as they looked frustrated and tormented by the much improved Eagles.

The skills training of Coach Wakefield was obviously starting to show as the game plan the Eagles implemented needed precise and skillful football and the eagles had plenty of that.

Hats off to the hard working centre line that through the downfall of the long weekend game had only 2 players on the bench to change with, as many Eagles players left the region in search of adventure. Westy, Cole and Freemo worked hard all day and were happy to hear the siren sound and stand victorious.

In the end a great win from a great bunch of guys and only better things to come from the Eagles Footy Team.

Well done boys, keep up the hard work.

Simon wins!!!!

Without a game to play this weekend the Eagles hit the racetrack to see who is the fastest man on 4 wheels . Check out the race results here --->

Congratulations go to Simon who won the Burnaby Eagles Go-Kart challenge. Credit to Tickets who posted the fastest lap time, proving once again that he is the fastest Eagle over a short distance.

After last years humiliating defeat in the fastest man on two legs contest, Chris 'The Fastman' Freeman chose to be a late scratching from the race,. This allowed Tickets to pick up another fastest man contest, with Freemo again not able to live up to all the hype of such a big event. Coach Tickets is said to be in talks with President Hilton about getting the aging mid-fielder an appointment at Port Moody Sports Pscychology Centre to aid in the recovery of these recent thrashings.

Honourable mention to Dale Handley who must have been preparing for his Marathon the next day. He had some people questioning whether his go-kart even had an engine. But congrats on the Half-Marathon completion on Sunday

The Darkness - with that fast looking helmet you looked like a sure bet but the mechanics of the kart failed to let your potential shine.

Morgan, aka the killer showed more aggression than he does on the field to try and eliminate the opposition with every turn - as he repeatedly took people out he could be heard saying "Rubbin' is Racin'" as he flew by.

Doc Dusty was certain that his race lap timer wasnt working as he continued to post lap times 2-3 times slower than the girls. Better luck next time Dusty. Keep on keepin' on.

Sara and Cherrie, your driving ability was sensational and all the boys were very impressed with the way you handled those karts around the tight corners of the Richmond track.

But in the end it was Simon with the fastest kart and the daring speed that saw him qualify for pole position and take the race virtually unchallenged. WELL DONE

Great event and thanks to everyone for participating.

It's back! This year it's going to be bigger and better than ever!

AFL Season starts 20 MARCH 2008!

There are 2 competitions this year that you can choose to join
or join them both if you like.

COMPETITION NAME 1 - "VanCougars" (for BC Footy)

This is the regular BCFooty competition which has been around for many years and it's username is "VanCougars "
(as Eagles weren't founded as yet when it was originly started)!
It is a free competition with no prizes other than the glory of being the best tipster in the group, and is open to all Cougars and Eagles Players, family and friends, and it's easy to join or just sign-back in if you were a previous member.

COMPETITION NAME 2 - "NDJAFL" (for the North Delta Junior Australian Football League)

This is a new competition that has been set up with an entry fee of $20 that attracts a weekly winner prizemoney of $10 and a season ending winners bonus. You may or may not know that the North Delta Juniors Aussie Football League
(http://www.ndfooty.org)
is in the middle of fund raising to take Canada's Junior National Team (http://cjnwolfpack.blogspot.com)
to Melbourne in August this year! 90% of the national team comes from the almost 200 kids in the Delta, BC based league!
The $20 you contribute will go towards prizemoney in the competition and fundraising for the kids footy.
This competition will be made up of mainly the canadian kids in the league and/or their parents & friends and anyone else including BC Footy fans, players, families, supporters to join up and support this great opportunity for the kids.

Plus you could actually potentially win some money $$$$$ for yourselves!
If you do sign up please note ( someone from the Cougars or Eagles committee) will be chasing you for the $20
(a debt colector from either club from the Saprono family, should not be taken lightly)
This money needs to be paid in the form of cash prior to the AFL season opening round starting in just 3 weeks on Thursday night March 20 (Aussie time)!

Freemo rushed back to Aus for surgery

The former Eagles super coach with an amazing 80% winning record - the best by far in the league - is being rushed back to Australia this week for surgery. Freemo, who is described in Melbourne as the 2nd biggest Collingwood Magpie supporter (behind Joffa), has had his surgery leaked by the Fox Sports media. After speaking to one of Melissa Freeman's friends it appears she is very excited to be getting back to Australia. Unfortunatley Chris & Mel were unavailbale for comment. However for more information on this 'magpie' supporters secret surgery, you can read the headline under 'more news' at this link http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl
